Welcome to

Amy began working in jewelry and ceramics in 1971 and later worked as a graphic designer. In 2004 she heard about metal clay and became excited by its combination of design, jewelry, and clay. She took a class and has been making metal clay jewelry ever since. Metal clay is composed of microscopic particles of metal ? silver, copper, or bronze ? mixed with a moist organic binder to create a material that has the feel and working properties of modeling clay. The clay is rolled, textured, and shaped while wet. After air-drying, objects are fired to temperatures approaching the melting point of the metal, where the particles fuse together. The silver clay becomes .999 fine silver, more pure than sterling silver, and is very tarnish-resistant. Amy?s jewelry design is clean-lined and contemporary, with themes from the ocean and from geometric forms. Many of her pieces incorporate glass and cubic zirconia. She is still excited and inspired by the endless possibilities of this exciting medium. In 2006, she began Handful of Silver and now sells her jewelry at art fairs and galleries, and also teaches classes.
